After my !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! I contacted the owner of another car
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
A 1980 Skoda 120. Guy used it for a charity rally, he bought the car from someone who brought it from the Czech republic and tectyl coated the car, repainted the bumpers, Painted it matte orange, and put some rally stickers on it. Looks amazing.
Long story short, we went to see it, car didn't have power steering or powered brakes (not sure if this is the term), my dad finds it too dangerous to drive as first car. FML.
Today we met with someone who was selling their 87' Nissan Bluebird SLX (hatchback)
Car was bought by their father in 1995, old guy, doesn't drive more than 1500 km a year with it. now he's too old to drive it, and with the new changes coming up, it is no longer considered an oldtimer, but a youngtimer so he has to pay again.
Interior is perfect, exterior has some small rust, nothing serious. car has 157.000 km on it, he is asking 1.250 euros.
Only one thing is holding me back.
...
It has an automatic ....
My father says it is ok if it is an automatic, because I can always drive stick in his Forester, but |I don't know..
It is not over yet, I found something else..
A Mercedes 200 2.0 Manual
Imported from Germany in June, had 3 previous owners in Germany.
Owners says it has no rust. Service history is unknown.
car looks fine on the photos. asking 1300 euros.
Only problem, it has 321.000 km on it.
Oppo, help me. what do I do?
Mercedes or Nissan?
Do you guys have any experience with these cars?
One more problem, I only have one week untill I go on vacation for a week...

I'd either wait a little longer or buy whichever one you can sell for more money to get a better car, lol. If I had to choose between the two, I'd go Merc.

I want that skoda. So much. It would be the most badass car in my school's parking lot.

hmm.. waiting might be an option, but oldtimers, cars from before 1988 , will have to pay taxes starting next year so everyone is trying to sell their previously road tax free car before the end of the year.
Why do you think both are bad?
And why do you choose the Merc over the Nissan?

I agree. Wait some more, see if you find something else.
300k kms isnt much for a benz if you were dead set on it. The engine would ideally need a full fluid change, and Id pull the valve cover and head to make sure its okay, but otherwise, theyre very reliable, even older ones with low mileage dont require much. I met a guy with a 250SE with 60k kms on it, and it has never had a problem ever.
Hey look, my car is hiding in the background...

Since I'm all about suggesting cars that I personally like, are there any Volvo 780 Bertonés for sale? They share all their mechanical bits with the regular 740/760s sedans and wagons, though they have completely unique, and much more stylish bodywork. Fuel efficiency is decent, or what you'd expect from a 25-year old Volvo. The early cars had the PRV V6 and live axle, while later models had a turbo'd 2.3L 4-cylinder and IRS.

Have you looked for Peugeot 405 Mi16s?

I quickly checked it out, and they are way too expensive. Cheapest one starts at 2.900 euros.
Really nice cars though, Never heard of it.

Nissan is bad because you clearly want a manual. Merc is bad because high mileage (kilometerage?) on an old Merc without service history. But I'd still go Merc because it might actually be good.

Which country exactly do you live in, and cars older than 25 years, or younger?

If you can afford the fuel bills, I'd suggest this Rover SD1 3500 V8 Vitesse .
Generally, V8 models of the Rover SD1 are more reliable than the 6 or 4-cylinder models. Also, if this example has survived almost 30 years, then it probably won't fall apart in your hands.

Out of those two, get the Mercedes. Parts are easy to get and not overly expensive. The kilometrage is high but as long as its maintained well it can easily do twice that. It's probably much more entertaining to drive as well. And when was the last time you saw a Bluebird? Probably a decade ago. Old Japanese cars, I'd stay away unless you're a huge fan of a particular model.
Another car you might want to consider is the Jalopnik favorite, the e30 BMW. Lots of those that are fffcked by the recent tax changes as well, so I bet they're flooding the market and you should be able to find a nice one for not too much cash.
A friend of mine has a very nice 1986 Mercedes 200d (w124) with lots of maintenance done and a 4 speed manual and for a w124 minimal rust. It's one of the better ones out there, except for the ones that are priced insanely high. It's light blue, you can probably find it on one of the used car sites and it's located in Groningen(city). He wants to sell, and I know there's room to haggle. Are you interested in a diesel?

It sounds great, but it is far away and, diesel and LPG oldtimers will be paying full price for roadtax next year..
